Good article and a good read. Those three words – authority, emotion, reason – really resonate as critical and comprehensive elements of any business writing, be it CEO speeches, corporate video scripts or the good ol’ press release.

Great article, Michael. Thanks for sharing. As I read through it, I was trying to think of ways to implement this for the varous communication roles I am in.

My current employer is not able to use the ‘pathos’ approach, for example, because of of claims restrictions on health products. Instead, we focus mainly on ethos by citing the scientific studies behind the product.

For my freelance editing and design business, I haven’t managed to get any testimonials from clients yet, but I have listed my educational achievements and past work. Do you have any suggestions for improving my website?
